How to Cut The Antlion Cable Wrap

Included with the ModMic 5 is a convenient cable wrap. Make no mistake, they aren't easy to put on or take off of your setup, but if you do not plan on moving around your setup much, provide superior protection of both the cables and superior binding of the cables when compared to our cable clips.

However, cutting the 2 meters of wrap down to the right size for your setup requires a little more work than just a pair of scissors.

If you cut your cable wrap without any prep, it will come out looking like this:

A cut like this could give us a "bad wrap" HAHA....

To fix this problem there are two options.

Option 1: Using a lighter is a quick and easy way to fix the problem, however, it is a bit dangerous and can leave some rough edges.

Step 1: Cut the wrap with a sharp pair of scissors where you want to.

Step 2: Before you unfurl the wrap, use a lighter to gently melt the new edge. Use proper safety gear and be aware that the wrap can BURN, so be ready to blow out any stray flames. You only want to MELT the wrap, not ignite it.

Step 3: Gently pull it apart and you should have a clean-ish edge that looks like this:

Not perfect, but it only took 30 seconds of work

Option 2: For those who want a cleaner edge and don't want to risk setting themselves or those around them on fire, there's a simple trick that requires nail polish.

Step 1: Get a bottle of clear nail polish and spread open the wrap where you want to cut it. Apply the nail polish to one side, heavily, in a thick line.

Step 2: Wait for it to dry. It may take some time.

Step 3: Cut along the center of the nail polish line with the cable wrap closed (so it looks like a tube).

Step 4: Reapply a new coat of nail polish to the END of the wrap with it still closed.

Step 5: Wait for it to dry... again.

The result when it is dry should be a very clean line that should hold up for a while, especially if you don't plan on re-wrapping your cables over and over again. It should look something like this:

Now that's an edge with... polish.

These two methods provide fairly easy ways to cut your cable wrap with minimal risk and optimal results. Found another way? Let us know in the comments below!
